My toddler is very active and sometimes gets overstimulated. I’m in need of fun activities that keep her in one spot, working with her hands. Activities like this help keep her centered and calm – and tantrums come less often.
Today we made some edible Playdough, tossed it in a bowl, and stuck some toys in there. Voila! The whole batch took about 5 minutes to make. I stuck with one color this time, but in the future I will try a couple more.
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 tbsp cream of tartar
- 1 tbsp oil
- Food coloring
- 1 cup boiling water
Combine all ingredients, except boiling water, in a bowl. (Note: I mixed the food coloring later with the water)
Add the boiling water and mix well.
Roll Playdough out and let cool (this is a very important step. If you try to mold it too early, it can be very sticky). Then, play!
(We originally made this playdoh for the first time when my daughter was smaller. We have more since then, and both my kids love it! I don’t have to worry WHEN they get some in their mouth.)
This is a fun activity to continue doing while we are stuck inside all winter! What color will you choose?
This would also be a fun preschool activity to do with your kids as you talk about mixing two colors to make a new color. Enjoy!
